Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd. (formerly known as The Tripura Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd.) was established in the year of 1982 and registered under Tripura Cooperative Societies Act, 1974 (Registration No.1274, dated 02/03/1982).
In the year September 1983 the Agartala Dairy was handed over to the management of Tripura Cooperative Milk Producers ’Union Ltd. (now Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd.) and the total responsibilities of milk procurement, processing and marketing vested upon the management of the Tripura Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd. (now Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd.).
First elected Board of the Tripura Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (now Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd.) had taken over the charge of Milk Union in the year 1994. Director, Animal Resources Development Department, Registrar of Cooperative Societies and 6 (six) elected members from the village dairy cooperative societies are the members in the Board of the Tripura Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd. (now Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd.).
Meanwhile, capacity of Agartala Dairy (installed in 1980-81) was expanded from 10,000 litres per day to 15,000 litres per day in the year 1997- 98 under IDDP-I, work of further expansion to 19,000 litres per day is completed in the year 2010 under IDDP-III and further expansion to 24,000 litres per day is completed in the year 2018 under IDDP-IV.
In April, 1995, a Feed Mixing Plant of 2 MT per hour capacity initially operated by Animal Resources Development Department, Government of Tripura handed over to GCMPUL. After marginal overhauling, the Milk Union started utilizing it. Initially the main thrust was given for production of cattle feed for onward distribution to the village dairy cooperative societies. To meet the increase demand of cattle feed, Milk Union upgrading the existing 2 MT per hour capacity Feed Mixing Plant to 3 MT per hour capacity Feed Mixing Plant at R.K. Nagar Farm.
Recently in 2019, Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd (GCMPUL) started manufacturing of ice cream with installed capacity of 1000 litre per day to cater demand of ice creams in the State.
